Liquorice
Liquorice is a versatile herb prized for its sweet flavor and medicinal properties. Ideal for teas, sweets, and remedies, it brings both taste and health benefits to your home.
Sun: Full sun or partial shade, but may need some afternoon shade in hot climates.
Soil: Rich, well-drained, sandy loam with a pH of 7.0–8.0. They can grow in any well-drained soil, but they don't do well in clay. If your soil is heavy, you can prepare it by digging a pit, removing stones, mixing in compost, and filling it back in.
Water: Plenty of water during the growing season, but can tolerate drought and heat once established. Mulch to help retain moisture, keep weeds down, and provide extra nutrients.
Recommendation: Plant in pot so you can bring it indoor for winter since the plant can survive several years
Harvesting: You should wait at least three years before harvesting licorice plants because younger roots may not be fully sweet or have developed their full medicinal properties.
